Introduction
The Recovery Tool is a live Linux distribution, which can be loaded into your server's RAM. As such, it will NOT be installed onto your servers disk drives or overwrite any data on the server.
When you choose to load the recovery tool from inside your Control Center, your server will be rebooted into the live Linux environment. This environment includes a broad variety of tools which you can use for recovery or diagnostics purposes. It even includes X, Firefox and VNC.
When loaded, you can access the recovery tool using SSH and the login credentials showed during initiation.
The Recovery Tools are Particularly Useful for;
- Changing root password
- Correction of config files making your server unable to boot
- Re-installing or re-configuring boot loaders
- File system diagnostics and repair
- Making a complete remote backup of your server
On servers with KVMoIP, you can also access the Recovery Tool directly from our PXE Boot Menu during boot.
Accessing the Recovery Tool
The recovery tool can be initiated from within your Control Center. From the overview page, just click More on your server label and select the Remote Management page.
Click Load Recovery Tool to open the recovery tool wizard.
The wizard generates a random root password, or lets you choose one of your own, for your recovery tool SSH access.
