Introduction

Private networking lets you connect two or more servers together through switched networking, completely isolated from other clients on our network. Servers in myPrivateNetwork® can be a mix of Cloud* and Dedicated servers.

Separate network interface cards are used to establish a 1 Gigabit full-duplex link for each server, providing you with full control over your individual server's network configuration.

myPrivateNetwork® is supported on all Sun Microsystems, SuperMicro and Fujitsu servers.

Connect only via myPrivateNetwork®

  • Taking a server offline is an option if you want the server only to be reachable via myPrivateNetwork®.
  • Set your servers offline using your EasySpeedy Control Center "Network Management" section.
  • The switch port interface for your servers public Internet link is disabled, while your server is offline.

How to Establish Your myPrivateNetwork®

Submit a support ticket, requesting us to setup myPrivateNetwork® for your servers.

Configuring Your Server for myPrivateNetwork®

All server types, except Sun Fire X2100 M2 and X2200 M2 servers, have their private network interface enabled in BIOS by default.

Network configuration example:

Replace eth1 with your myPrivateNetwork® NIC

Server #1

ifconfig eth1 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0

Server #2

ifconfig eth1 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0

Enable myPrivateNetwork® Interface on Sun Fire X2100 M2 and X2200 M2 servers

On our Sun Fire X2100 M2 and X2200 M2 servers, the myPrivateNetwork® interface will be on the secondary port of the nVidia network interface card.

This interface is per default disabled in the server's BIOS.

How to enable:

You can access the BIOS through the KVM feature. In the eLOM (KVM) web interface, choose the tab Remote Control and then Remote Power Control.

Select Boot option: BIOS setup.

Start KVM redirection and reconfigure the BIOS as follows:

AdvancedOnBoard Device ConfigurationnVidia LAN 2: enabled

Save the settings and reboot the server.

Upon the reboot, the BIOS will automatically reset the boot sequence. So you will have to change this again, booting into the BIOS once more.

Then select:

BootBoot Device Priority:

1st. Network:MBA v8.3.9 Slot 0620
2nd. DISK-DRIVE
3rd. Disabled

Then Save and exit.

  • Enter the KVM eLOM web-interface from your Control Center.
  • Select Remote ControlRemote Power Control and choose "Boot option: BIOS Setup" and then click Save.
  • In the BIOS Setup, go to AdvancedOnBoard Device ConfigurationnVidia LAN 2: enabled.
  • Save settings and reboot the server. Upon the reboot, the BIOS will automatically reset the boot sequence. So you will have to change this again, booting into the BIOS once more.
